YAY MONTH 2!

Review for May 2008:
  • I did my quota of portraiture for May, but I've yet to practice more fluidity and understanding with it. I plan to continue practicing females this month and a variety of different expressions to help my understanding of facial expressions and movement.
  • I never did get around to being used to Colors! ;( the interface is a bit inconvenient to doodle on while in commute and at home......I'd rather just use my computer lol
  • I finally finished designing Torque and Pipe. I've yet to compose a character reference sheet for both of them but I plan on doing some more character development this month.
  • I think I kept up my posts pretty consistently and made regular updates. Hopefully that keeps up lol
  • Trip to Indigo done! I found a few books that would help my next big thing that I want to tackle...aka anatomy.
  • Website obtained! melissimo.com and paper-momo.net :)
June 2008:
Nothing too heavy this month since I'm getting a second job AND planning to get married in August. With any luck I'll be able to accomplish half these goals.
  • More portraits! Females this time with more expressions and facial movement. My goal is to have at least 2 portraitures done this month that display all the end results of learning!
  • Finish that header of Torque and Pipe
  • Create a deeper character development for Torque
  • Attempt a few ideas at Torque/Pipe illustrations
  • Fiddle around with Illustrator.
  • Go to Indigo/Chapters to check out books on Illustrator.
  • GET PHOTOSHOP FOR MAC!!!! AHHHH MUST GET PHOTOSHOP!!!

Spankin' New Toy!

I have a brand new toy and I'M SO EXCITED JUST HOLDING THIS THING /OMG.

Tun-tun-da-da!

Oh my god I'm so happy T_T I dropped 2 grand on this kicker too! Gawd. Anyway, I've yet to get Photoshop and Painter. I installed Boot Camp so I could run Open Canvas since PG didn't make OC for Macs. My best friend's boyfriend had Window's Vista Ultimate lying around so I got that installed and I've yet to use it D: Besides why would I?! After having this!:

Sweet, ain't it?!

Torque

Well I've been gone for a while! But I did finally finish that painting :) I wasn't very happy with the outcome unfortunately and I felt I could have done better. I rushed it and it just ended up looking very haphazard.

But the person who received this was very happy so hey, who am I to complain. On another note, I'm creating a new layout for my website and I've decided on this image of my original character to grace the front header :]

As you can see, her name is Torque! She has a little sidekick named Pipe :) I'll post the details on Torque once I'm done painting this. I had to go through several designs everyday to decide on this one. I don't think it's too anime-ish nor is it too cartoony. I'm kind of glad I could strike that medium. I've yet to come up with character reference sheets for Torque and Pipe. She's my baby since I've never had any original characters ever since I began to draw and paint. My ideas have always been kind of lame and cliche with mysterious angels/mages/demi-human gods bla bla bla. But Torque is an actual story of her own. So I hope to put lots of work and effort into her character development :)

Art trade: Still WIP :(

So I've been busy the past two days and it'll only get busier since I'm going to be having a second job! Wah! Too much work not enough time to draw! Henceforth my art trade has been slow in the process. Here's a W.I.P

She's an original character belonging to her. I've yet to fix her fingers and the awkward position of her foot (that I realized after I painted that it was awkward). I drew Micayla in an anime-realism style since well... pure-anime is not my area of expertise or interest (aka its boring) and realism is well.........boring too :( So I like to mix the two genres to achieve this effect. Due to having a mixture of anime/manga style in these pieces, the anatomy and "realism" is often exaggerated and over-compensated to achieve a certain effect. A lot of artists do not like that about anime, but I feel that the realism aspect of things balances the anime portion out to create a much more interesting effect. It helps a lot also, with a more fantasy/sci-fi theme of things without making it mundane and/or severe.

So there you go! My explanation of why I chose this particular style. It may not please everyone, but it sure pleases me!

Art trade

Someone's character I'm drawing. It's going to be fun! *crosses fingers*

Also I've found two great books that I'm going to use to help my study on human anatomy! I don't think it'd be too much of a hassle to have a decent grasp on anatomical foundation since I seem to be anatomically inclined without any real instruction besides observations. A little effort goes a long way, they say! Anyhow, here's one by Giovanni Civardi and another one by Stephen Peck.
Civardi's seems to be a decent book with not as thorough coverage and detail as Peck but it gets the basics down pretty well without complicating it with unnecessary details for a beginner. Peck is incredibly detailed, personalized and intensive but that will come later after I have a decent understanding of Civardi's book!

Progress report

Whoops. I flipped it. Oh well, I just figured I'd make a W.I.P post before I finish it. It's sexyman #2! Steve Monaco my hottie hubbie-to-be! It's a relatively old picture and he's picky about it so please don't critique his face. It would crush his spirit and dreams of being a porn star. Not like people really care about male porn star's faces....! Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggghhtt.
